Gas Doc: Start

Decided to do a gas doc from a matte painting I like. Starting to block it out

Moving on, again

Took a few days off to clear my head. I thought about trying to salvage my sci-fi scene, but I'm just gonna move on and do a new scene. I'll definitely be doing a sci-fi scene, but for now, gonna do something else. Most likely a gas dock/pier. I learned that, especially after successfully completely a scene, I get so excited to do the next one, I don't spend the time to plan out enough.

Sci Fi Hall: Bleh

wow.. just... I mean, I admit I had terrible planning on this effort and I thought that once I put it together it'll look good, but it just doesn't. So, yah, a bit mad at myself and that I spend 2 weeks and end up with stuff that I don't know what to do with now, and don't think it's portfolio worthy :(

Sci Fi Hall: Update 3

Spent way too much time on the wall, and I'm not even totally happy with it, but gotta move on.

Crysis: Barrel

A barrel inside the Crysis Sandbox2 editor. So far, I'm really liking the editor and it's "what you see is what you play" vision. One of the things that was frustrating in the Unreal Editor was that it tried to be WYSISWG but it wasn't. Especially when it comes to lighting and how painful it was to need to bake constantly if you wanted to see how it really looked like in-game.

Crysis Editor and Moving On

Decided to check out the Crysis editor and hopefully use it instead of Unreal Editor. Been seeing alot of really good stuff done with the Crysis editor lately, stuff that I can't seem to get in UE3 or is beyond my scope of understanding. In particular, modern day environments. Also, I've decided to stop my middle east scene. It's been a really bad habit of mine to bite off more than I can chew. I'm going to be much more aware of the type of scene I want to do next and scale down drastically, so that I am making small scenes, but higher quality.

Things and Stuff

I haven't posted since May.. Things have been frustrating and stuff has been happening. Just kinda goes to show that even if you plan something, like self studying 3d and trying to be job ready in a year, there are still things that you'll never expect. Like spending a year and half stuck in a room studying can make a person go crazy. Or, that money does buy some comfort and happiness. And I definitely didn't expect the entire economy exploding, causing the 3d industry to stop hiring new people. I also completely underestimated how much I needed to learn and wore myself and my bank account thin. And so, I got a bit depressed and had to fight a few demons in the past few months.

Fortunately, I feel like I have a better perspective now. I still want a 3d job and I am slowly getting back into my studies. Though, now I feel my new goals are a little more grounded.. hope I didn't jinx it by saying that, heh.

So I'm still here, just moving one tiny step at a time.

New Plan Of Attack

I realized that I've been too critical of myself the thought of failing a model has been keeping me from progressing. So, I decided to just keep racking off models, even if I don't finish them. Here's one that's made from a UWars concept I found.

Controlbox: Update 2

Baked the normals and popped it into Unreal Editor

Controlbox: HighPoly

Okay well, I've realized that hammering away at something dull and boring is not that productive for me. So I've stopped the 2nd alley scene and just practice my highpoly skills more. Here's a little control box thingy.

Yet Another Alley: Update 1

Started work on another alley scene. I wanted to do a more "full" scene, and also this time I'm working off a concept drawing. I'm also trying a new technique in creating the surrounding buildings. So we'll see how it goes...

Alley Building: Done

Alley Building: Screeny

So this is what I've been doing after dropping the school hallway scene. A building in an alley. Just doing the facade

School Hallway: An Abrupt End

Been getting more frustrated everytime I work on my school hallway, so I decided to drop it. I bit off more than I can chew. I'm angry but I'm gonna take what I learned in my failed attempt and move on. I'm starting a new scene with a much smaller scope and hopefully a much shorter turnaround.

School Hallway: Update #5

Been hammering away at this, it's frustrating. I can't get it to what I want it to be... ughh..

School Hallway: Update #3

So I realised what all the fuss is about when people say to keep things on a grid especially when importing into Unreal. It made a huge difference as far as being able to peice parts together in the editor. Unfortunately, I had to re-align most of my peices, and had to re-do a few things... but the payoff was worth it. It's still not great looking, but the peices are much much easier and faster to work with now

School Hallway: Update #2

Exporting and importing some of my scene into Unreal
